Day 27

*sigh* Road trippin' is not a good thing on the wallet. It was a full day on the road to make it to various doctor's appointments for the boy and I so:

Breakfast - $3.41 (I think, I lost the receipt and it hasn't cleared the bank yet.)
Lunch - $3.62
Lunch for Darren (who was NOT on the road trip BTW) - $3.18
Gas for the Subaru - $23.93
Dinner from Taco Bell because it was a long day and everyone was starving - $7.89

Not a great day. :(

Total spend - $42.03

Day 26

Eating out for me - $3.73 (better but still not good)

Gas for the cobalt - $25.55

Total Spend - $29.28

An ok day I guess.

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Day 25

It was a wasted day. It really was.

My Lunch - $3.36
Darren's lunch - $3.18
Dinner out for all 3 of us - $30.50
Dollar General for cards and cold meds - $7.22

Blech.

Total spend - $44.26

Monday, January 25, 2010

Day 24

I was almost at a no spend but we ran out of milk and eggs and were running low on milk so a trip to the grocery store proved necessary. :(

Kroger -
3 bags of Frito Lay Chips
Sara Lee Honey Wheat Bread
2 packages of Kraft cheese cubes
2 packages of Kraft singles
Gallon of milk
2 CF Pepsi 2 liters
Dozen eggs
12 pk Lipton Green Tea
Total out of pocket - $22.83
Total savings - $17.32

I actually am thinking I will go back to a different Kroger to get more pepsi. They are 79c a piece if you buy 10 things in the 'mega event' deal. So if I get 10 pepsis I can use 2 of my $1/4 coupons and get them really cheap. They only had the 2 at this store so it was kind of a bummer.

Then of course we just can't go a day without eating out (big eye roll here) and we picked up a $10 pizza deal from Pizza Hut. Which don't get me wrong, is a ROCKING deal but we are getting a bit ridiculous with this I've realized. - $10.70

And we can't forget (as I am known to do) the two redbox movies. - $2.14

Total spend - $35.67

Day 23

The big day!! We had Luke's 1 year pictures that morning and his party that afternoon. Talk about busy!

First up was 1 year pictures. I knew to expect about $100 because we usually spend that so that we can get the CD with all the pictures. There were so many good ones though and since we will be sending them out to quite a few people we wanted the better quality that you get having them printed there so we went a *little* over. - $167.96 (I don't regret it though.)

Then we went to Mickey D's to wait for the pictures to print and to grab breakfast. - $10.25 (It's expensive now that the little man eats a meal of his own!)

Final stop at the Florist shop to get the latex balloons blown up for his party. (Again, the kids LOVED these so they were definately worth the money.) - $8.56

Total spend - $186.77

Day 22

What did I tell you about the eating out? Sigh. - $4.52

Joy. I get to edit to add that Darren ate out too....$4.24

Luke and I made a Walmart run to pick up the last few food items we needed for the party and the pictures I had printed to make his 1 year banner with (one from each month). - $48.42

And finally a run to the dollar tree to pick up some mylar balloons. Oh.my.goodness. These were the best thing EVER. I think it was his favorite thing about his birthday. - $7.49

Total - $64.67

Friday, January 22, 2010

Day 21

I don't know about Alexander but for us the 21st was an awful, horrible, no good day spending wise. Not as a whole of course because it was my baby boy's very first birthday but as a frugal day? It stunk.

It stunk because both DH and I ate out for lunch for a total of $13.28. We have GOT to get better. I say that knowing that you are going to see eating out on the Day 22 entry because it has already happened.

So, you want to know the awful part of yesterday? The flat tire I walked out of work to. There was screaming, crying and fussing....and the baby was pretty upset too. Did I mention it was raining buckets as I tried to air it up? Yeah. Darren arrived to manage to air it up in no time but we drove it over to Sears and confirmed a new tire was needed. Lovely.

Cost of dinner for the 3 of us from the food court as we waited for the tire? $16.91 Blech

Cost of the two little Chuck trucks we found at Sears for 1/2 off and decided to get Luke for his birthday? $6.23

Cost of the new tire? $125.60...double Blech

And finally Darren stopped for gas in the Malibu on the way home. $29.82

Total spend - $191.84 *cry*

Day 20

Oops again! Needless to say I fell behind. Ok I'm going to think WAY back to the 20th (you know, all of 2 days ago). What amazes me is that it really is hard to remember what was spent two days ago, how scary is it that it is so easy to forget?

I did not do any better about going out to eat, in fact I ate out both breakfast and lunch. - $7.49

Darren stopped by the grocery store with the mission to get milk for Luke and somehow cottage cheese and icecream found their way into the cart too. - $9.87

And finally I made a run by Hobby Lobby to get a few things for the little guy's birthday (cake rounds and a '1' candle). I did make myself proud because I really wanted to get the cake rounds with the scalloped edges but they were twice the price so I reeled myself in. - $6.36

Total spent for the day - $23.72

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Day 19

Today wasn't TOO bad. Could have been better.

Gas for the Cobalt - $28.80
Lunch for me - $2.94
Lunch for Darren - $12.77
Hobby Lobby for random party supplies - $6.38

Monday, January 18, 2010

Day 18

I took the opportunity of a day off work to stay home and spend some extra quality time with my Lukie Duke :). As a result, I didn't spend any moola today, yay!! Of course Darren didn't have the day off work today and as seems to be our pattern on Mondays he stepped out for lunch so we can't call it a completely no spend day.

Total for the day - $3.18
YTD - $1,024.69

Day 17

We started the day off bad money wise. I had seen a sign at Ruby Tuesday's for their new brunch menu and usually a fan of brunch I wanted to give it a try....not a good plan. Darren went against the brunch train and had a pasta dish that from the few bites I had was really good, and Luke certainly seemed to love his pancake/biscuit/fruit brunch. BUT I was not a fan of what I got. The cranapple crepes were sort of a rubbery pancake instead of light and fluffy like other crepes I've had and there was no filling besides the apples and cranberries, mmmm, a little cream cheese would have hurt them? So I felt like I wasted the money that was spent on mine, totally not worth it. Total cost for brunch for three including tax and tip? $39.58

Then it was over to the Dollar Tree to pick up party supplies for my big boy's very first birthday party (*sniff*).
2 packages of plastic spoons/forks/knives
5 plastic tablecovers of various colors
2 flag banners with balloon flags
2 packages of streamers
Birthday Headband (not as girly as it sounds)
Happy Birthday Banner
Winnie the Pooh book (because I'm a sucker for a Lukie Duke smile)
(The rest of the list is due to Darren being along for the trip.)
Night Light
Some sort of cable of some sort
2 boxes of brownies
Total - $19.12

Then Darren drove us over to Once Upon a Child which I thought was weird because I didn't ask to go there and he hates shopping. Of course Once Upon a Child is in front of Harbor Freight and guess where he wanted to go after? Yeah.

OUaC was actually having a rockin' clearace deal though, anything that was on clearance was marked down to only $1. I picked up some 2T stuff for next year and it was all name brand (GAP, Old Navy, Osh Gosh) and looked like it had never been worn. We got 5 pairs of pants, 2 jackets, 3 tops and a robe. Plus Darren found a HUGE bag of Dr. Who collectible stuff and it had been marked down and was included in the $1 sale so he got that. Total? $12.84

Then of course was Harbor Freight. I didn't bless it with my presence and stayed in the car but maybe I should have went in since Darren 'spent more then he meant to'. Total? $23.97

Lastly was Target.
Large box of Frosted Flakes (thanks to the hubby) - $3.50
He-Man DVD - $5
3 boxes of TGI Friday's Snacks - $7.98
7 various 2 liters for the little guy's party - $6.79
Thomas the Train Set (which yes we pre-bought for next Christmas/Birthday) - $7.48
Tax - $1.35
Total spent - $32.10

Total for the day - $127.61
YTD - $1,021.51 (Woah)

Saturday, January 16, 2010

YTD - $893.90

Friday, January 15, 2010

Day 15

Unfortunately today was not the day we fully embraced frugal lunches, we both ran out of time to grab anything this morning so...

Me -
Breakfast - $3.26
Lunch - $5.49

Darren -
Lunch - $6.14

And I made a little side trip to Kohl's also, to pick up a birthday shirt for Luke. Sigh, next week my baby will be a one year old.

I ended up with a birthday shirt, 2 pairs of shorts for him and a Dr. Seuss book - $20.90.

Spending for the day - $35.79
YTD - $693.47

Day 14

Oops! I might have laid down with the baby last night and fell asleep without blogging the day. What can I say? I'm an exhausted Mama, haha.

Ok, I did better yesterday in that I brought my lunch but I begged off my oatmeal and bought breakfast so really? Not so much better.

Breakfast - $3.47
Redbox - $2.14
Gas (for the Malibu) - $27.28

My husband has a bone of contention about me blogging the cost of our gas because he claims that is not 'crap' it is a need. Which so are our groceries to a point but I feel like blogging about it and putting it out there just makes us more concious of our choices. Maybe by really recognizing the cost it will make us more aware and we will start to cut down on unnessercary trips that waste gas.

One thing I've noted by doing this so far is that I'm struggling to establish the habit of bringing my own breakfast and lunch to work with me. It is so much cheaper and something that I need to get better about. Not just say I will get better about, but actually address and do something about.

Total spending for the day - $32.89
YTD - $657.68

Thursday, January 14, 2010

Day 13

Short and to the point today since it's 3am and I still need to put laundry in the dryer before hitting the hay....

Lunch - $5.70

Total spend for the day - $5.70
YTD - $624.52

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Day 12

It was supposed to be a no spend day for me, it really was. I packed my lunch like a very frugal little girl. But then it came to be lunchtime and I popped the frozen meal in the microwave and even before I took it out I noticed there was an overwhelming smell. Apparently the rice had green and red peppers mixed in and heating up those green peppers made EVERYTHING in the meal taste like one big green pepper. So...I threw it out (hides)and picked up a little something from the cafeteria.

Darren actually took himself to Meijer today. He typically does this when he has something specific he wants (today it was chili ingredients). I was just proud that for the most part he stuck to the sales. No coupons used though *sigh*. Baby steps are all I can ask for I guess.

Meijer -
Kidney Beans - $1.34
Red Beans - $1.34
2 cans of veggies - $1.70
2 boxes of Little Debbie brownies - $3.18
Cottage Cheese - $2.49
Ground Meat - $3.69
4 cans tomatoes - $4.76

2 Tombstone pizzas - $6.58

3 jars of Prego - $5.00
Total - $34.47

Total for the day - $36.58
YTD - $618.82

Monday, January 11, 2010

Day 11

Darren and I did not start out this week so well. We both didn't get going enough to pack lunch this morning so there was money down the drain from both of us...

Me:
Breakfast - $2.20
Lunch - $2.11

Darren:
Lunch - $4.87

And I ordered a refill on my prescriptions today too so there was another $30, of course those are actually needed...unfortunately.

Total spent for the day - $39.18
YTD - $582.24

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Day 10

Well *I* didn't buy crap today...but crap was bought none the less. And to me it is the crappiest of crap. Darren felt the need to venture out to....Harbor Freight. Sigh, it's like Target for a man, voodoo mind tricks and all.

I'll save you from the list of crap that was purchased because, well, I don't know what half of it is or does so I'll just give you the total...$16.60. Not as bad as it could have been that is for sure but still....

Total spent for the day - $16.60
YTD - $543.06

Saturday, January 9, 2010

Day 9

I bought crap today....there I admitted it. They say acceptance is the first step, right?

Walgreen's - Film Processing (yes I still have an 'old-fashioned' 35 that I use every once in a blue moon) - $5.61 with tax
Savings (What you thought I didn't use a coupon?) - $5.93

Sam's Club - I stopped to look at the birthday cakes for the kiddo's first one that is coming up *sob*, and quickly determined I hated them all. Seriously? It was all roses or cheap plastic 'kits' slapped on a cake. Not a fan. Anyway, I still bought crap. - Turbo Tax Deluxe - $53.26 with tax (The first person to point out that a CPA shouldn't need Turbo Tax gets punched in the face.)

Target - What did I tell you about their voodoo mind tricks?!?! It's real I tell you! I may have wondered my way into the clearance toy aisle and discovered a literal plethora of toys. Most were 50% off which was not the 75% I was hoping for so I did manage to control myself.
Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Farm - $39.98
Igloo Cooler (30% clearance) - $13.22
10 Caffeine Free Pepsi 12pks (the whole reason for going) - $30
Tax - $5.82
Total Spent - $89.02
Total Saved - $62.65

Total Spent for the day - $147.89 (That hurt to type.)
YTD - $526.46

Friday, January 8, 2010

Day 8

Well the snow didn't stop me from spending today. I feel relatively good about it though. Not too much really crappy crap.

Walgreen's - $8.43
Rite Aid - $3.73
Pizza - $18.18
Gas (for the Cobalt) - $30.40 (and we're out of cars so hopefully we can go a few days without a gas station intruding on the posts!)
Redbox - $3.21

Walgreen's -
1 Children's Tylenol and 1 Children's Motrin - $9.98 minus $3/2 coupon = $6.98
Drano Gel - $3.50 minus $3 register reward from buying the medicines first in a separate transaction
Tax - $0.95
Total - $8.43
Total Saved - $12.49

Rite Aid -
2 packs of Stayfree Maxi Pads BOGO - $3.99 minus BOGO coupon - FREE
2 Nivea lip moisturizer BOGO - $2.99 minus BOGO coupon - FREE
Listerine 500ml - $3.50 minus $0.50 coupon - $3.00
Tax - $0.73
Total - $3.73 (and I'm submitting for a $3 rebate so it will eventually be even cheaper)
Total Saved - $15.35 (which will technically be more after I get back the rebate)

I feel like I got quite a bit of stuff that we were running low on without having to spend a whole lot and I didn't buy anything we didn't need just because it was cheap so I stuck to the rules pretty well. We'll see how tomorrow goes, I am planning a trip to Target for the pepsis that are on sale and I am so easily taken in by the store. They play voodoo mind tricks to make you buy things, I'm convinced!

Total Spent - $63.95
YTD - $378.57

Thursday, January 7, 2010

Day 7

You know the good thing about snow? It makes you want to stay home. And the good thing about staying home? You don't buy crap!

Darren did fill the Subaru up with gas today though so we still spent money (I need him to coordinate with me, I want no spend days dangit!).

Total Spent - $36.71
YTD - $314.62

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Day 6

Today was a very exciting day crap wise considering...no crap was purchased!!

We did have 1 expenditure today, Darren fueled up his car for a total of $26.15.

I did pay some of the monthly bills today too but since the focus here is more on our impulse buys/things we can control I will skip the chatter on the monthly bills which tend to be pretty much the same amount each month. I am tracking those too in my own separate handy dandy excel spreadsheet(thanks to an idea I stole from my friend Kris) so that we can really see at the end of the year where we spent each and every penny. I have a feeling it will be eye opening.

Total spent - $26.15
YTD - $277.91

Day 5

Today actually wasn't TOO bad despite being the day we've spent the most but it was grocery shopping day so I guess that's to be expected. We both managed to take our lunches today so no eating out expenses!!

Kroger -
4 boxes of Quaker Instant Oatmeal @ $1.88 each - $7.52
3 Lean Cuisine @ $1.78 each minus $1/3 coupon - $4.34

Total spent - $122.93
YTD - $251.76

Monday, January 4, 2010

Day 4

Today was not so good eating out wise, such is the life of a family with a baby though :). Luke was up and down with a tummy ache and teething and I did not drag myself out of bed in time to get together breakfast and lunch to take with me so...

Breakfast - $1.99
Lunch - $5.49 (which in it's defense was enough to bring home to Darren for dinner too)

Darren did lots better than me, probably because he only has to get himself ready in the morning and not a baby who was not thrilled with being woken up. He did have one expense though...

Snack for Darren - $0.80

Spending for the day - $8.28
Spending for the year - $128.83

Tomorrow, Meijer and Kroger for groceries...this should be interesting. Say no to crap!!

Sunday, January 3, 2010

Day 3

Most successful day so far! I did not leave the house today, I stayed in and played with my precious baby boy who unfortunately was not feeling so great. I did catch up on clipping coupons which won't stop me from buying crap but at least maybe I'll pay less for it if I do.

Day 3 - $0.00
Year to Date - $120.55

Saturday, January 2, 2010

Day 2

Well I've only left the house 1 time today so the number of opportunities I've had to purchase crap have been limited (although I did surf some sights online but resisted the urge to buy crap and then have it shipped to my house).

Day 2 Spending -
Pizza Hut - $17.12

Total Spending for Day 2 - $17.12
Total Spending for 2010 - $120.55

Day 1

Ummm so it's the very first day of the new year/new decade (let's pretend, I started this a day late) and I have decided to track my spending to the penny and become accountable for it by telling everyone. I'm hoping this will reduce the amount of stuff...ok let's be honest, the amount of CRAP we buy in 2010 because 2009 was a high crap year and I don't want to end up as one of those crazy-eyed people on that Hoarders show swearing up and down that the mountain of stuff was a great idea when I bought it. Also, I have noticed that we got into a BAD habit of grabbing fast food/eating out because well...we're lazy. BUT since that is neither good for my wallet nor my waistline, let's track that too.

So with that said, Day 1? Not so good, sigh. We decided to go out since we had today off work.

Lunch at Cheddar's - $30 including tax and tip
Walmart Trip - $44.18 for 75% off clearance and a WoW expansion pack the husband talked me into
Avatar in 3D - $24 for 2 Adult tickets
Snacks at Movie - $5.25 for one large Sprite (Highway Robbery!!!)

List for Walmart Trip:
Wreath - $2.50
2 boxes of Light Clips - $0.96
Wooden Desk Puzzle - $1.25
Magnetic Desk Puzzle - $1.25
Fancy Schmancy Ornament Hooks - $0.50
2 spools of Fabric Ribbon - $1.24
Pack of 2 Holiday Round Plastic Containers (for fudge/sweets) - $0.75
Large Metal Tin Container - $0.75
Plastic Tumbler with Holiday stuff floating in it - $0.50
Set of 4 'strong' Magnets - $3.47 (addition to the cart by the husband person)
5 packs of LED Replacement Lights for Christmas Lights - $0.90
5 packs of Mini Christmas Lights - $1.85
12ft Outdoor Extension Cord - $1.62
4 pack of Lipgloss - $1.25
Chocolate Covered Cherries - $1.48
Candy Canes - $0.44
6" Pillar Candle - $0.62
WoW Expansion Pack - $19.96 (sigh)
Tax - $2.89
Total - $44.18
Savings from 75% sale - $50.13

Now you would think that I would be happy what with saving more then I spent but in truth I should have 'saved' more by not buying some (or all) of it in the first place. Tomorrow is another day...and hopefully not as much crap will be purchased.

Total Spending for Day 1 - $103.43...ouch
